Drug uses
Viagra is a medicine taken to treat men’s sexual dysfunction. It belongs to a class of phosphodiesterase inhibitors as it slows these enzymes down. It helps to achieve and maintain erection in the process of sexual stimulation. This inability called erectile dysfunction (ED) develops in many men as they get older. The reasons for it may be numerous (heart problems, stress, alcohol addiction, diabetes, smoking, depression, kidney problems, atherosclerosis, problems with self-esteem, multiple sclerosis).Viagra encourages blood flow into penis when a man is excited.
How taken
Viagra comes as tablets taken by mouth. The medicine is taken approximately half an hour up to 4 hours before sexual intercourse (average time- 1 hour) once a day.
Men over 65 may be advised to start from a 25 mg dose. But the average one for men is 25/50-100mg once a day.
Viagra acts for about 4 hrs.
Precautions
1 Tell the doctor if you have any allergies.
2 Strictly follow your doctor’s instructions and never take the medicine more often than prescribed or exceed the dose.
3 Viagra doesn’t protect you from diseases such as gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, HIV transmitted via sexual contact.
4 Viagra is supposed to be used by MEN only, though it can not do any harm to women. It’s not known whether it passes into breast milk.
5 Alcohol beverages may aggravate side effects. Avoid eating grapefruit and drink its juice during the treatment.
6 Consult with your doctor if the first dose did not help you as the doctor may change the dose for you then.
7 Do not do anything life-threatening before you find out how your body reacts to the medicine.
8 Inform your doctor about any specific health conditions that you have. Be sure you mentioned:
Blood pressure/penis/liver/stomach/blood/heart/kidney problems
Leukemia
Myeloma
Hyperlipidemia
Heartbeat irregularities
Retinitis pigmentosa
Sickle cell anemia
9 Tell the doctor about the medicines you are taking especially if they are other medications for ED, for blood pressure, nitrate-based medications, antifungals, HIV inhibitors, and any nitric oxide donor medications.
10 Elder men over 65 y.o. are more subject to having side effects.
11 Do not share your medicine with anyone else.
Side effects
Side effects caused by Viagra tend to last for no more than some hours. The most common are stomach upset, clotted nose, headache, diarrhea and flushing. In some cases changes in vision, and increase in sensitivity to light are observed. There were cases reported when men had heart complications and died. Seek for medical help if any side effects occur.
Missed dose
Viagra is taken when necessary, so there is no risk to miss a dose.
Overdose
Signs of overdose include giddiness, heartbeat irregularities, swollen limbs, pain in the chest and priapism (persistent and painful erection for more than 4 hours).In case of overdose call the emergency.
Storage
